As with the Sölden project, the Austrian-based design agency Norden, commissioned TypeTogether to modify one of our fonts to fit their concept for the exclusive ski area of the Austrian Tyrol Alps on over 2000 m, called Gurgl. With its blend of adventure, natural beauty, and tranquility, the Gurgl area is a premier destination for both winter sports enthusiasts and summer hikers in the Austrian Alps.

Design features

Norden chose Adelle Sans Condensed as basis for the modification and suggested the direction the design should take. The typeface should convey a sense of sophistication, elegance, and distinction, reflecting the exclusive, high-quality essence of the updated Gurgl brand. Located in the upper part of the Ötztal Valley in Tyrol, it is often referred to as the “Diamond of the Alps” due to its high-altitude location and pristine natural beauty.

The renewed brand picks up on this with diamond inspired graphics and the customised headline typeface. The slants in the typography are inspired by the diagonals of the diamond element reflecting Gurgl’s special attraction. This creates an elegant and simple look, optimised for digital applications in conjunction with the diamond elements.
