A playful pairing: LFT Etica and Iskra in a vibrant arts project

Tutti Arts is helping neurodivergent people learn and excel in their artistic interests, and they’ve chosen the surprising pairing of Iskra and LFT Etica to bring it together.

Arts + Neurodiversity

Tutti Arts is a South Australian multi-arts organisation where learning disabled and neurodiverse artists work across visual art, acting, music, screen, and dance, while experimenting with art forms and technology. Great art can come from anywhere, and Tutti Arts believes that learning and making art in all its various forms enhances the maker, the viewer, and the community, beyond simple utility. Something about being human makes us want to create and to share, and the participants are seeing great and positive effects as they tap into their creativity and increase their skills.

So to share their own joy, the Tutti Arts website combines Tom Grace’s Iskra in menus and titles, with Leftloft’s LFT Etica in longer texts. Iskra is a sans serif challenging the limits between utilitarian and decorative, while LFT Etica is a charming and sober sans with a balanced voice for any application.

This pairing was an inspired take on how to have a display typeface work with a text face. Notice how letters like ‘S, C’ that curve sharply have similar shapes in both families, even though they were designed by different creators. The web designer knew what to look for and how to make it work well. Beyond that, many of the art pieces are available to purchase in support of the artist, so check out their website for more info.
